Sessions #08 | Red Robin – Expect the unexpected…
For our eighth instalment of our vinyl only sessions, our old friend Red Robin takes out some of the very special and precious records that have accompanied him all along his musical career. Every single one having a deep and and personal meaning to him.
The outcome of this session was completely unexpected but absolutely glorious. Far away from the sound he is known and respected for, he takes us deep into a unique musical journey, proving that he is not only one of the best electronic DJ’s around but also a true wanderer of the crates. Starting of with the all time fabulous Köln Concert, the set touches base with the heavily respected Roots Manueva on its way to the deep and thoughtful sound of Tom Waits’s “Big in Japan”. He also gives us a glimpse of Falco and his Junge Römer, before leaving us with an Iron Butterfly… Well done Robin and thank you…

A little something about Red Robin:
32-year-old Red Robin found his way into electronic music only five years ago. However, Robin has had a long journey through various types of music; including 15 years of classical piano, 14 years of drums, African and Brazilian percussion, which prepared him for a fast integration into the Berlin-based electronic music scene.
Robin has been the resident DJ at Berlin’s number one afterhour-location Bar 25, since 2005. He also released his first record on cologne-based label Platzhirsch Schallplatten together with his buddy, Philipp Groth, under the name of “Pachulke & Sohn.”
After this release, word spread quickly about his demanding dj-sets combining both his very own style of swing and dark deep sounds. Defining his style mostly through his unique mixing-technique, has allowed various types of electronic dance-music find their way into Red Robins dj-bag including minimal, straight techno, breaks and tomorrows sound today.
He just got signed on Trapez ltd. together with his good friend Jakob Hilden. The “Metro Gold EP” was released in September 2007.

Dear diggers, listeners, music-lovers,
this mix here is for all those who would like to know more about me and who don’t mind hearing that these vinyls have all been played very, very often; starting off with the first record I got when I was 6 and finishing with the first record my father bought himself long before I was even born (and which he gave to me in 2005 when I told him I was gonna become a DJ for a living – how cool is that…!)
Please excuse my after all very basic mixing skills (techno is just so much easier to mix). But that is not what this is about, anyway. This is a positive soul-strip. “Dropping the pants”, as we call it in Germany ; )
Enjoy, feel offended, like it, be surprised, throw up, dance – whatever. This is me.
All the best,
Robin
