Relatively unknown Brit meets American rap superstar
Jay Sean is one of the hottest exports out of London. Kamaljit Singh Jhooti, his real name, made his first steps in the music industry at the age of 14 when rapping with some friends. In 2003 he dropped out of school to concentrate solely on his music career. In the same year he recorded his first album, which was fairly successful in the U.K. Such was his appeal that Lil Wayne took Jay Sean under his wing and into the studio, eventually giving us this track “Down”. Mixing Jay Sean’s voice with Lil Wayne’s rapping proved to be a successful recipe and will have fans of Jason Derulo and Chris Brown quickly singing along.
“Down” was released on vinyl in the US in 2009 by Lil Wayne’s label Cash Money Records with the original version and the instrumental on both sides. In UK there was an unofficial release adding a non-rap version, a Dance Remix and a “Mega Mix” featuring Akon and Drake.
