“I Wanna Know” by Sylvia & Bobby!

This weeks dig is a truly beautiful duet cover version of the Sugarpie Desanto hit from 1961. “I wanna know” performed here by the late Svlvia Robinson & Bobby “Sunny” Hebb from 1962.

This should be classed as an answer record as it goes into a lot more detail on the subject of “what” is actually in question in the orginal. Here is the link to the Sugarpie Desanto Cut of “I Wanna Know” … on Check Records… I’m clueless to this record label? I have the Lp on Checker?!

Born Sylvia Vanterpool in 1936, marrying Joe Robinson in 1960 whom which she set off on a truly epic journey through modern music history, unfortunately taking the best part of 20 years until they really “made” it: as founders of the legendary Rap/Hip-Hop/Funk Records Label Sugarhill Records, named after a culturally diverse Harlem neighbourhood. Thmove laid foundations for the evolution of music from the 70s disco-funk era into the boogie, electro and hip-hop genres that are still more current than ever
This truly epic step of laying young harlem kids gritty streetwise rhymes or “raps” over huge downbeat disco riddims still deserves respect today! So thank you and R.I.P. Sylvia Robinson.
