Take care of your vinyl!

Men get wrinkles, records get dusty. And even worse!! Unless you keep your records sealed, time will come when you have to clean your grooves more thoroughly than with the brush you wipe the rough dust off before putting the needle on that plastic. A few record shops offer to clean your vinyl records with a washing machine – don’t panic, your records won’t get tumbled! The “washing machine” is a kind of record player especially designed for cleaning:

CLEANING

Diamond D from D.I.T.C.: „Water and alcohol. I get a spray bottle and put in half water, half alcohol and mix it up, and then take a towel.“

„All you can do is clean them up as good as you can and then play them with a good and clean needle without too much weight on it.
Dust is easy to remove, you just need a carbon fiber brush.
More difficult is candle wax, paint, insect shit, mold, calcium residue etc.
The various methods for removing these things would fill a book… Lighter fluid can work wonders and it dissolves without any residue. “

Barbee: „I put them in a special plastic cover and sometimes I clean them with water, just water, and dry them with some special cloth. Microfibre, very sensitive material.“

The Vinyl Pimp: “We clean our records once before shelving using a non cotton cloth and water, it has been great so far!”

French Chris de Multifunkshun: „I’ve heard cold water and soap all night long, my friend has this gel he puts on and let’s it dry, then he wipes it off and it’s like new!!“

We wouldn’t recommend cold water and soap all night long though…

STORING

Sure you would store your black gold upright and at a decent temperature, right? And sure you know that this penny for outer plastic sleeves is really worth it… There are also special antistat inner sleeves, that keep the dust off your grooves.
